Built around 1827 and retaining many original features, all rooms at The Churchill are designed to offer convenience and comfort. All bedrooms merge contemporary style with the traditional qualities of the building. Indulge yourself with one of our superior suites, some with four-poster beds and spa baths.

Offering locally sourced produce wherever possible, the hotel's Piano Restaurant boasts a great reputation for it's fine dining and refined ambiance. The Piano Bar is the perfect location to meet up with friends or for that pre-dinner drink.

Hotel information

This luxurious, privately owned hotel is housed in a carefully preserved and sensitively renovated Georgian residence. Many of the building’s beautiful original features and characteristics have been thoughtfully retained and restored, yet the structure has also been sympathetically extended and thoroughly refurbished to integrate the contemporary comforts and facilities demanded by the discerning modern traveller.

At the heart of the building is the atrium with its stunning, original, cantilever staircase and equally amazing bookcase. Here you can put your feet up with a good book or keep in touch, via the subtly concealed computers provided for your use.

Access for disabled guests, wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility is provided, with a number of suitable rooms available. A lift offers access to 24 of the hotel’s 32 rooms.

Food & beverage

Breakfast is available from 07:30 until 09:30 and dinner is served from 18:00 until 20:30.

The Piano Restaurant offers an elegant and refined atmosphere, as well as delicious cuisine made with fresh, locally sourced, seasonal produce.

The Piano Bar offers a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in stylish and relaxing surroundings, which artfully combine the historic with the contemporary.

Room information

All of the rooms are stylish and contemporary, with a unique feel to them. Each luxurious room is well-equipped, with all the modern comforts and facilities you need in a restful, relaxing base. Whether you are exploring the region as a tourist, visiting the area on business or attending a conference, the comfortable, peaceful rooms provide a relaxing haven.

Many of the rooms have 4-poster beds and all have a spa bath or shower.

All linen and towels are provided, whilst an ironing service is available upon request.

Access to guest rooms is available at all times.

Area information

York Minster (800 metres) - easily York's greatest and most famous attraction, the Minster is the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe.

National Railway Museum (1.6 km / 1 mile) - the world's biggest railway museum houses 'The Workshop', 'The Warehouse' and 'The Working Railway', providing a packed visit full of learning and interaction for the family.

Jorvik Viking Centre (2.5 km / 1.6 miles) - detailing York's rich Viking past, using hundreds of exhibits. Visitors can even be transported through a reconstruction of the actual Viking-Age streets which stood on the site 1000 years ago.

Beautiful building and really convenient walking distance into York. It had a relaxed atmosphere overall a pleasant stay.

The attention to detail was not what I would have expected,also small things like no hairdryer, it took three requests to get a light bulb changed. I would have expected it to be better for the price!

situation and character

The room we had did not have a window-it felt like being in a box and even though the heat was turned off and outside was sub-zero it was too hot to sleep.The evening meal should have included vegetables in the price
