The newly refurbished Royal York Hotel is set in 3 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens in the heart of York. The hotel boasts spectacular views over York Minster and is within easy access of the city centre.

Nestling beneath the city's ancient walls, the Royal York stands proud in beautifully kept gardens and has spectacular views overlooking the historic city and York Minster. This magnificent Victorian building has recently undergone a major 7 million pound refurbishment and investment programme to enable us to offer the ultimate in luxury hotel accommodation, facilities and standards.

The hotel is within a 2 minute walk of the city centre and many places of interest including the Shambles, National Railway Museum, York Race Course and provides an ideal base from which to visit the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire Dales.

All 170 of the hotels en-suite bedrooms have been furnished to an upper four star standard to ensure your comfort is guaranteed. Whether you choose a standard or contemporary room either in the hotel or the mews, you can be assured that you will experience one of the most comfortable and memorable bedroom experiences in the country.

The Royal York offers unrivalled facilities for meetings, conferences, banqueting and special events with function rooms, equipped to the highest of standards accommodating between 2 and 410 people including the purpose built world class events centre which can seat 410 delegates theatre style or 200 people for dinner.

The hotel boasts a fully equipped leisure centre complete with swimming pool, sauna, whirlpool spa and gymnasium. The brand new Tempus Bar is the ideal venue to meet new friends or relax whilst having a pre-dinner drink.

We had an executive room - but it was on the 5th floor with lifts only to the 3rd Floor. The room was large but very cold - I really expected more for my money - like a kingsize bed with a decent mattress. The mattress was very soft and we only stayed for one night instead of the two we had booked.

Friendly staff and lovely building.

We were very disappointed with our room. It was very small, especially the bathroom. The beds were not that comfortable. For the high price, it was not nearly as luxurious as we had imagined. Also the serving staff literally took are dishes out of our hands whilst we were still eating.

Convenience to railway station

Price of drinks in the bar extortionate - we paid £42 for a round of 6 drinks, one of which was tonic water - not far off the prices we paid at a 5 star luxury hotel in Venice. The Royal York is not luxurious, the room is over priced too for the standard, but there is obviously a shortage of hotel rooms in York so they believe they can charge what they like. Very disappointing.

The only good thing about the stay was how close to York town the hotel was and the fitness suite, which we used.

The room we had was smaller than a Premier Lodge hotel room, but twice the price. We were given a room in the Garden Wing, miles from anything and very very small. I would not book into this hotel again, not value for money in the light of the current financial climate.

The location of the hotel

The room was filthy and found mould on my bread in the morning. They took it away but didn't bring anything back. Will be complaining to the hotel.

The location is very central to most things.

The room was too hot, we couldn't sleep because of it, even with both windows open. Car park too expensive.

Wanted to visit Railway Museum and hotel only few mins walk

The room was very dated, the beds were uncomfortable,,my bed was actually lopsided and I fell out of it during night. On arrival could not find anywhere to park and when we did get a space in the hotel car park we had t pay through the nose for it even though we spent a fortune on the room

The hotel is situated next to the station and very close to the centre of town, within walking distance of everything we wanted to see.

Breakfast was not included in the price of our hotel.
