This medieval town sitting in the loop of the River Severn was the birthplace of Charles Darwin and is famed for its history and architecture. Shrewsbury also boasts a Norman Abbey, a medieval castle, fine examples of Georgian architecture, a most unusual circular church and the world's tallest Doric column! There are a number of museums and galleries to visit and in the fine weather the Quarry Park provides a lovely setting for a stroll by the river or a relaxing rest in the beautifully landscaped Dingle. The river can also be viewed from the cruise boat which docks at the Quay only a short stroll from the centre of town.
