The former home of Prince Rupert, the grandson of King James I, it combines old-world charm with modern comforts and hosts an array of historic period features. Surrounded by cobblestone streets and Tudor buildings, the Prince Rupert is perfectly located to explore all of the town’s main attractions which are just a few minutes walk away.
Privately owned since 1996 by the Matthews family the hotel has benefited from a significant investment programme and now features 70 ensuite bedrooms including 12th century Mansion House Suites (some with a 4-poster canopy bed) and 15th century Tudor Suites, three fabulous restaurants, Camellias Tearooms, garden courtyard and a fully equipped health suite. Valet parking is provided to our own private car park.
All bedrooms are tastefully furnished with ensuite bathrooms, high quality Hypnos pocket sprung beds, thick and fluffy towels, Marathon velvet textured blankets, hair dryer and a welcome tray. All guest bedrooms, public areas and conference suites have BT Openzone WiFi. The rooms at the front of the property have views of the historic and famous St. Alkmunds Square. Many rooms at the rear of the hotel overlook the Mansion House courtyard garden.
Directions by road: From M6, exit at junction 10a onto the M54 towards Shrewsbury. Follow the M54 until it joins the A5. Follow the A5, then the A49 following the signs for the town centre. Cross the English Bridge and bear right up Wyle Cop. Continue for a short distance and turn right after the post box into Fish Street. Continue for a further 150 metres until the hotel entrance is visible. Valet parking is provided to the hotels private car park.
